Hydro energy in Brasil
Braco Norte is the name of a river in Mato Grosso, Brasil. With the help of a new hydroelectric station renewable energy is provided for the local population.
Apart from CO2 reduction, reduction of power losses is a remarkable side effect, as produced energy is consumed close by. In addition the local electricity supply system is more stable. For each kWh electricity that is being produced, emissions of 530 g CO2 are avoided by the hydro power plant. Considering the total output of 14MW a total reduction of approximately 40.000 t CO2 per year can be reached.
The project's contribution to sustainable development has been approved by the Brasilian government. The project does, just like any other Greenmiles project, apply to the Kyoto Standard and has been registered by the UN in 2006. The project has been approved by the independent expert sgs (www.de.sgs.com) before registration. The fullfilment of Greenmiles' emissions reduction is continually approved by TÜV Nord(
